Case Study – Improved Plant Layout to Reduce Lead Time and Cost
Our client is a highly successful high technology manufacturer who is already recognised for its work in implementing lean manufacturing. Rapid global growth in its business and increasing competition from low cost countries means that it identified a need to both increase plant output and reduce cost without expanding the current factory floor area.
The TXM Response
TXM worked with the production teams to conduct a detailed evaluation of the plant. We completed a value stream map of the key product lines, benchmarked the operation against best practice standards in plant layout and conducted a 5S audit to determine how effective space was being utilised.
TXM identified through improved layout, redesigned workstations, the use of standard work and intensive implementation of 5S productivity could be increased by around 45% and around 30% of factory floor space could be made available for new production lines.
